Summary[]
Following Charybdis's defeat, the Jura-Tempest Federation are holding a festival to celebrate, mostly by chopping up and grilling the Megalodon meat, while Kaijin and Kurobe have harvested the scales it left behind and are now trying to figure out what to do with them. Milim continues trying to convince Rimuru to become a Demon Lord in the bath, though their conversation makes her remember that there's something she needs to do so she takes off promising to return.
That Morning, Rimuru dreams of Shizu's memories and the five children she left behind. Rimuru determines that with the plethora of subordinates they've gathered together, they can take some time off to deal with some of Shizu's regrets. Step one is to travel to the Kingdom of Englassia where Shizu worked as a teacher after she retired as an adventurer.
In the interest of keeping a low profile and keeping them safe, only Ranga accompanied Rimuru on their journey. For Rimuru, the matter holds personal significance to them, as it is the first time since they were born that they've been outside of the Jura Forest proper. Rimuru's first step is to have a meeting with the head of the Freedom Association that Shizu worked alongside and raised, Yuuki Kagurazaka.
Thanks to papers prepared by Fuze, Rimuru gets as far as Yuuki's office, all the while Rimuru is stunned by the Ingrassia Capital's level of technology and wealth. When Yuuki arrives in his office, he and Rimuru chat for a period of time. When Rimuru revealed his human form and explained that their Shizu-like appearance was because they killed and ate Shizu, it prompted Yuuki to be briefly overcome with anger and attack Rimuru half-seriously. However, Rimuru catches him off-guard with the 'I'm Not a Bad Slime' line he used on Shizu, which deescalates the situation and leads Yuuki to realize Rimuru's an Otherworlder.
The two quickly bond, with Rimuru telling Yuuki, a Summoned Otherworlder like Shizu, how his various favorite shows ended and even used a stack of paper that Yuuki provided to manufacture several dozen volumes of manga that Yuuki couldn't read the end of before crossing worlds. Getting down to business, Yuuki wonders if Rimuru's looking for a way back to earth.
Though Yuuki himself hasn't done it yet, he believes it's possible based on all of the legends on Earth about monsters from their world. However, Rimuru states that they're there to deal with Shizu's lingering regrets to which Yuuki claims he can help, arranging for Rimuru to take Shizu's old job as an instructor the otherworlder children of Class S.
While escorting Rimuru to his first day of class, Yuuki tells Rimuru about one of Shizu's students named Hinata Sakaguchi, who has apparently managed to surpass Shizu while she was in her prime. Yuuki also informs Rimuru about the various illegal summonings carried out by different countries that resulted in the children of class s.
Because of the purposefully half-baked methods that various different countries used to summon these kids, they did not develop Skills, and as a consequence, the magical energies inside of their souls are slowly killing them. As far as the countries of this world are concerned, rather than training their armies to fend off powerful monsters like demon lords, its cheaper to use a summoning spell to forcibly kidnap, enslave and empower someone from another world to fight for them, doubly so when they cut corners and remove safety precautions.
The most those kids can expect to live in this world is five years. Rimuru already has an idea they want to try to save those kids, but first is their job as a teacher. Entering the classroom, Rimuru receives a warm welcome in all the wrong ways by being on the receiving end of a fire attack from Kenya Misaki. Rimuru quickly realizes that since they don't have long to live anyway, Kenya and his classmates, Ryota Sekiguchi, Gale Gibson, Alice Rondo, and Chloe Aubert have been allowed to run wild.
