Rumbling of Heaven and Earth天地鳴動, tenchi meidō is the twentieth light novel volume of the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime series.

Synopsis[]

Although Rimuru managed to defeat his archenemy Michael, battles continue to rage across the land, and the fighting between Milim's forces and the insectars is particularly chaotic. Just when the outcome looks to be in Milim's favor, a beautiful woman of ice and snow appears, drastically altering the tides of the war. She is none other than Velzard, the eldest of the only three True Dragons in existence. Once Velzard overwhelms the situation, encasing everything in ice, Milim begins to go on a rampage—and Rimuru has no choice but to return to the battlefield to stop her.[1]

Afterword[]

I've finally finished writing Volume 20.

This time, we were supposed to avoid extending the deadline, but in reality, I faced numerous problems and it was incredibly tough. Specifically, I was in a slump. I couldn't get into writing at all mentally…
Rather, while scenes would come to mind, I'd lose focus when it came to putting them into words. On top of that, I had a lot of other work piling up, which really drained my energy. However, it was the first time I felt so completely uninspired to write.
In desperation, I resorted to the last measure: changing my writing environment. I was anxious about how it would turn out, but I ended up enjoying a stay in a hotel in Tokyo—cough, cough.

I stayed at the hotel and worked diligently on my writing. Of course, I paid for it myself. The publisher did offer to cover the cost, but I felt that might increase the pressure to write more, which would have made me uncomfortable. I was already anxious about not being able to write, so I didn't want any more pressure and decided to pay for it myself.
As a result, it's hard to believe I couldn't write for three months, but I managed to meet my daily quota and successfully finished the work. Indeed, the environment is crucial. Maintaining a regular lifestyle and getting into a writing rhythm is essential. Even though I knew that, it's still quite challenging…
I'm very grateful to the hotel staff. It was so comfortable that I didn't want to leave. My editor, Mr. I, seriously asked, "Isn't it okay if you don't go back?" but it didn't sound like a joke…Mr. I is probably serious, so I'll do my best to avoid that situation (laughs).

During my stay in Tokyo, I had the chance to meet other authors who were in similar situations. Many seemed to be suffering significant mental strain due to the pandemic restricting their activities. With the increase in home-based work because of COVID, many people, like myself, who struggle with self-management, might be experiencing similar difficulties, to varying degrees.
In such times, it's important to take breaks and refresh yourself! Please make sure to take care of yourselves and not push too hard.

I hope that my work, "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime," can offer some comfort and peace of mind. I will continue to work hard towards completing the story.

See you in the next volume!
