Returning from the Brink起死回生きしかいせい, kishikaisei is the forty-seventh episode of the anime adaptation That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and the twenty-third episode of the second season.

Synopsis[]

Neither Clayman's pawns nor Clayman himself are able to stand up to Rimuru and the others.[1]

Summary[]

Starting from where the previous episode left off, Veldora came to pester Rimuru for more manga. Rimuru has him fight the brainwashed Milim. Beretta takes out the puppet Clayman summoned, while Rimuru frees a fox demon who is under Clayman's control and is another member of the Five Fingers, and puts her under Ranga's care. Shion proves to be too powerful for Clayman, who in the meantime, finally snaps and loses his composure, transforming into his Crazed Clown form. His weakness and plots are exposed with his defeat by Shion. Clayman, in a bind, orders Milim to activate her Stampede form and kill them all, but she reveals that she was never mind controlled and was faking it all along (Veldora and some of the Demon Lords had suspected this earlier); it turns out the necklace failed to work on her, much to Rimuru's surprise and Clayman's anger. Carrion is also revealed to be alive and is disguised as one of Frey's attendants while Frey reveals that she was never on Clayman's side at all, having faked Carrion's death from the start, further angering Clayman. Shion then proceeds to finish off Clayman. Refusing to accept defeat or reveal the mastermind behind his scheme (although a flashback reveals that he is in allegiance with Yuuki), Clayman wishes for power with all his heart, causing him to undergo a pseudo awakening.

Adaptation Notes[]

Trivia[]

  • When Valentine flies backwards upon Clayman awakening, he has his right arm extending his cape; this is to covertly shield Luminous Valentine from the energy being released.
  • In the light novel and manga, Veldora comes to Rimuru because Rimuru has played a prank on him, replacing the last volume of a manga series with another. In the anime, he comes because Rimuru has neglected to give him the last volume.
