In this nation, there are many people liked by the spirits. Therefore, everyone undertakes a spirit contract ceremony when they reach the age of 10. Successful completion of this ceremony qualifies one as a citizen of Ulgrasia; those unable to make a contract with the spirits will be driven out of the nation and lose their rights as Ulgrasian citizens when they reach the age of 20. However, because there are many kinds of spirits, a person that is unable to make a contract with a spirit is rare.
There are two places to contract a spirit. First is on an altar in the middle of the city where most citizens conduct their contracts. Although it is easily accessible to the citizens of the nation, a high ranked spirit is rarely able to be summoned there. For a higher chance to contract a high ranked spirit, it is necessary to go to the Dwelling of the Elementals.
