The Puppet Nation of Jistav傀儡国(かいらいこく)ジスターヴ, kairai-koku jisutāvu is the country formerly ruled by the Demon Lord Clayman. It was founded as a safe haven for the dark elves 2,000 years ago and is currently under the joint sovereignty of Rimuru Tempest and Milim Nava,[1] with an eventual plan to completely annex the nation to Milim.[2] It is currently managed by the elder of the dark elves Eva, who acts as the nation's governor.

Background[]

Over 2,000 years ago, the capital of the Ultra-Sorcery Kingdom of the elves was destroyed by the Dragon Princess Milim Nava. While the nobility fled and eventually went on to create their own kingdoms, the common folk remained loyal to Princess Kagali and stayed behind as the Chaos Dragon ravaged the land.

They attempted to rebuild their once glorious capital, but eventually fled far to the east. It was there that the elves — now corrupted into dark elves from extended exposure to the Chaos Dragon's miasma — would go on to establish Jistav. To honor their homeland's memory, the city of Amrita was created as Jistav's capital, a fantastical city that served to preserve all the marvelous technologies of the Ultra-Sorcery Kingdom while also acting as a tomb to honor the fallen.

Many centuries later, Kagali — now the Curse Lord Kazalim — had firmly established Jistav as a nation and continued to gain influence until eventually becoming a member of the Demon Lord council. Then, more than a thousand years later, Kagali was slain by the upstart Demon Lord Leon Cromwell. With Kagali's death, the upper caste of Jistav all unanimously supported Kagali's successor Clayman as the new king.

Clayman's rule started off strong, creating an economic boom with his business acumen and even forming strong trade connections with the Eastern Empire. However, Clayman eventually fell under the control of Tatsuya Kondou, whose mind control drove Clayman to madness. While on the surface everything appeared to be going well, Clayman began to act with an increasing irrationality and started to lose his once immense kindness, slowly but surely causing those around him to lose respect for him. This culminated in Clayman's own death at the hands of Rimuru Tempest and Jistav subsequently falling into their hands.

Government[]

Jistav was originally an absolute monarchy, with all authority being held by the king. When the first king — Kazalim — perished, Clayman was named king with the backing of the ancient dark elves. After the death of Clayman, the monarchy transferred over to Rimuru Tempest, who assigned the leader of the ancient dark elves to be the nation's governor.

Military Strength[]

Under Kazalim's rule, Jistav enjoyed a mighty army of powerful dark elves as well as powerful domestic defenses in the form of an undead army protected by a magical domain as well as an army of mighty golems, each as strong as a would-be Demon Lord like Clayman.[3][4]

After Clayman rose to power, the dark elves slowly began to be phased out of the army's main forces, an act done out of a childish desire to not rely on Kazalim so much. As a result of this, Jistav's forces began to be more and more filled by an assortment of Majin and various Demi-humans, many hired as mercenaries using Jistav's immense wealth. The total number of fighters under Clayman reached over thirty thousand, with 80% of that number being fighters of B-rank and the remaining 20% being filled with mostly A-minus rank, with a healthy sprinkling of full A-rankers mixed in as well. The ancient dark elves, meanwhile, were assigned to the rear forces as part of the supply units, making little use of their immense powers and making them essentially non-combatants.

After the defeat of Clayman, the entire military force of Jistav became Prisoners of War and used as a hard labor force for several years, primarily constructing a new capital for Milim's Empire. Though a majority of them negotiated for their release in exchange for immigrating to Tempest and joining their military instead.[5] In addition to this, Adalmann and his undead army were also defeated and joined Tempest's Forces. Meanwhile, the Golem Army was destroyed by the combination of Milim, Shion, Gobta, and Ranga after they were activated in an expedition to the Under City.[6] This has resulted in the current Jistav having little if any actual standing military power, aside from the remaining Dark Elves and their Elders, Jistav now relies almost entirely on Tempest and Milim domain for national defense.

Economy[]

Jistav's economy relies heavily on the use of slaves and slave labor, using them to grow and harvest large swaths of crops and other acts of manual labor.[7] They are also noted to have hired the Orcs of Orbic on occasion, offering them protection in exchange for goods and labor.[8]

Due to Jistav's geographic location, its options for large scale trade operations are limited to Dwargon and the Eastern Empire. It's unknown if Jistav and Dwargon had any large scale trade agreements, but under Clayman's rule Jistav enjoyed a hefty official agreement with the top officials of the Empire's military. So much so that almost all weapons and armor within Jistav were imported from the Empire, rather than being domestically produced or from Dwargon.[7]

Notable Locations[]

Amrita[]

The capital of Jistav is the city of Amrita, an ancient city inhabited almost entirely by dark elves. The city is broken into two seperate sections, the inhabited surface city that used to be guarded by Adalmann and the hidden under city that used to be protected by an army of mighty golems.

Foreign Relations[]

Eastern Empire[]

Under the reign of Clayman, Jistav enjoyed prolific trade with the Eastern Empire — a result of the trade deals made with the top officials of the Empire's military. The current relationship, if any, between the Empire and Jistav is unknown.

Sorcerer’s Dynasty Sarion[]

Jistav shares a ancestral connection with the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion. 2,000 years ago, the elves of Sarion and Jistav were part of a singular nation, the Ultra-Sorcery Kingdom. However, after Milim Nava caused their original nation’s destruction, the elves split. The original elven nobility founded their own kingdoms that eventually united as one Empire and the common folk elves ended up evolving into dark elves and fouding Puppet Nation Jistav under their original Princess’s leadership.

Trivia[]

  • A possible origin for Jistav's name is that of the Albanian word Gisht — meaning finger — and it's plural form Gishtave. This is in-line with the overall theme of strings and puppets found within the nation.
