Halflings ｢小人族, hāfuringu, lit. "Little People Tribe"｣ also known as Hobbits ｢ホビット, hobitto｣ are a race of Sprite Demi-humans descended from Fairies. Many swore their allegiance to Rimuru Tempest and became part of Tempest after he slew the Orc Lord. In Tempest they were largely assigned to doing agricultural work out in the fields, with them able to be seen frequently in the background of the manga.
