I only wish that my friends who have fallen, as well as my honorable father, could have experienced this deliciousness...

Geld, Gourmet Story, Chapter 5

Geldゲルド, gerudo is an orc in the service to Rimuru Tempest. As the right-hand man (and son) of the deceased Orc Lord, he now serves as the Orc King. He is the leader of the Second Corps, which acts as both the last line of defense for Tempest as well as the main team of the country's Department of Construction and Manufacturing while also serving as a member of Rimuru's Twelve Guardian Lords.

Appearance[]

Geld is a large orc that usually wears loose pants, a large black cloak, and a necklace that is decorated with what resembles three teeth. His most notable trait, unlike most of his Orc brethren, is a mohawk-like hairstyle.

Personality[]

Geld is among the most serious and hardworking of Rimuru's subordinates. He felt responsible for the Orc Lord Incident, to the point that he begged Benimaru to kill him and spare the rest of the orcs so that they could alleviate their hatred and works hard in order to pay for his people's sins.[1] He has endured drought, famine and bitter winters alongside his father, giving him a resilience to the elements and experience with the feeling of hopelessness. He retains a strong will to become a worthy leader but tends to undermine his own leadership skills at times. With Rimuru's support and the support of many of his own tribe, he begins to work on his self-doubt and becomes more relaxed as the series goes on. He is known to have a stubborn streak, and believes in Rimuru who saved his people, but differs in his devotion then most other followers. He sees Rimuru as a kind, carefree and just leader, and as a normal person. He has a habit of burying himself in work, to the point where Tempest's other residents worry he's not taking care of himself.

Geld was shown to be in a rut when dealing with the PoW (prisoners of war) laborers from Clayman's war campaign. Since they were not orcs themselves, he questioned if it was right of him to treat them badly. He disliked the lazy and incompetent and the lack of communication from them, but Rimuru reminded him of his viewpoints and how he should just treat them as his own people, reasoning that he wouldn't accept that behavior from his tribesman. Seeing the hypocrisy and the behavior he realized he was treating them like outsiders, when in fact, since they also had no place to go or no master to serve, they in a sense were in the same place the orcs themselves where in not long ago. Because the orcs once almost went extinct due to starvation, Geld tries to make sure that none of Tempest's residents ever went hungry.[2]

In battle he is relentless in taking down his opponents as shown in his battle with Shogo Taguchi. Geld is gentle towards friends and family, but absolutely merciless to enemies. He shares Rimuru's conviction to never betray a friend, considering it to be the biggest sin of all.

Geld is also kind and loving towards children, being quite popular with them. He is often seen playing with them and carrying at least one child with him, showing a very paternal side about himself. He has a vindictive side, shown with his interactions to the Moderate Harlequin Alliance, more specifically Footman. He seems to get to have a brotherly streak towards Phobio, treating him with the same sense of comradery that he has a hard time showing to new allies or friends.

Background[]

Geld was the right-hand man and son of the deceased Orc Lord. During the orc invasion of Jura Forest, he served as an Orc General. As the last surviving Orc General after the invasion ends, he acted as the representative of orcs during the post-war meeting.

Trivia[]

  • His name may be a shout-out to the Gerudo people from The Legend of Zelda video game series. One of them, Ganondorf, often appears in his pig-headed demon form Ganon. However, a Japanese transcription of the German first name Gerd, the pet form of Gerhard, may also be possible.
  • Gelmud (ゲルミュッド) derived the name "Geld" (ゲルド) from his own name, by taking out a single syllable.
  • In the movie Scarlet Bond, Geld seen to waver and even accepting his death in the hand of Hiiro because of his immense shame and internal conflict with what he and his tribe have done to the Ogre Village, making Benimaru to defending him instead. He's seen close to tears and bows respectfully towards the Kijin.
