Cryptids幻獣族クリプテッド, kuriputeddo, lit. "Mythical Beast Tribe"」 are a species of demi-spiritual magic beasts that originate from another dimension, born from the magicules of the World Destroying Dragon Ivaragé.

Appearance[]

Cryptids all have the appearance of some sort of magic beast, ranging from mammals like foxes and rabbits to insects like beetles and wasps. They seem to vary in size, most starting out small but being capable of growing to massively sized beasts. If a cryptid gains sufficient power and intelligence, they gain a tremendous amount of power and the ability to shift into a humanoid form, making those that achieve this state majin.

Characteristics[]

Nearly all Cryptids are mindless beasts who lack anything resembling intelligence. Most of them reside within the Otherworld, where they constantly fight amongst themselves in territorial disputes, not forming anything close to a cooperative relationship with each other. They're capable of asexual reproduction but most are born purely out of magicules.[1] If a Cryptid gains intelligence, it is possible for them to assume a human form, with those that do gaining power comparable to that of a demon lord at full maturity. It is possible that they all bear the power of elementals, as insectoids — a sub-species of Cryptids — are described as having it, but this might just be a trait unique to them.

Insectoids[]

Insectoids蟲魔族インセクター, insekutā, lit. "Insect-Monster Tribe"」 are a sub-species of cryptids. They're the result of Zelanus — an intelligent insectile cryptid raised by Veldanava — spreading his essence to create more of himself. As their name suggests they almost all possess the appearance and traits of insects such as beetles, wasps, and ants. Although most of them are based on insects, some possess forms resembling creatures from the wider arthropod families such as spiders and scorpions.
