Benimaru's Ordeal 「べ二マルの受難, benimaru no junan」 is the sixty-fourth episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and the sixteenth episode of the third season.
Synopsis[]
On the final day of the audience ceremony, Rimuru welcomes Momiji, the representative of the Tengu Tribe. Rimuru wants to dig a tunnel into the Khusha Mountains where they live, and has sent Benimaru as an envoy to negotiate.[1]
Summary[]
Raphael tells Rimuru about the Tengu and the visiting female Tengu's identity. A month earlier, Benimaru and Albis were sent by Rimuru to negotiate with the Tengu, but find a barrier around their village. Only Benimaru and Albis are allowed in and they are taken into an alternate dimension, where they meet Momiji, the daughter of the elder of the Tengu. Benimaru wishes to ask their permission to dig a tunnel through the mountains to reach the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion. Momiji does not like that idea because the mountains are sacred to them. After she insults Albis, they get into a fight before Benimaru intervenes. Kaede, Momiji's mother and the Tengu elder, arrives and stops their bickering. She explains her history with the ogres and a human named Byakuya Araki, who passed away years ago. She also reveals that Hakurou is her husband, making him Momiji's father. Kaede also proposes that Momiji should be engaged to Benimaru in exchange for the Tengu's allegiance with Tempest, but they are both hesitant as Momiji wishes to win his heart first. After learning of Kaede's illness, Benimaru deduces that she lost lots of life energy giving birth to her daughter. Returning to the present, Momiji makes a deal with Rimuru while believing that he wants to wage war with them after learning of his connection with Frey, who tried to take over the Khusha Mountains to reach the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion's Divine Tree because of its elevation. After clearing up the misunderstanding with Frey, who had abandoned her plans after beginning construction on Milim's capital, which will be taller than the Divine Tree, Rimuru is given a letter from Kaede. As Shuna reads it, Momiji gets embarrassed when the letter reveals her feelings for Benimaru, also discovering that there are two letters; the one that Shuna read is really for Hakurou, not Rimuru. Hakurou returns from Falmuth and meets his daughter for the first time and agrees to improve her fighting skills while also being supportive of her arranged engagement to Benimaru. Rimuru's subordinates then talk about their relationships with others, leading them to decide to compete for those that they love.
