Attribute ｢属性, zokusei｣ refers to several concepts in the series.

Element

There are eight different Elements that are laws forming the principles of the world and are the basis for Aspectual magic, Elemental magic, and Elementals.

Five Great Elements

The Five Great Elements ｢五大属性, godai zokusei｣ are the most common elements seen, with each being in a relationship of being strong against one other element and weak to a different element.

• Earth ｢地, chi｣ is strong against Space.
  • Land ｢大地, daichi｣ is a superior version of Earth.
• Fire ｢火, hi｣ is strong against Earth.
  • Flame ｢炎, en｣ is a superior version of Fire.
• Water ｢水, mizu｣ is strong against Fire.
• Wind ｢風, kaze｣ is strong against Water.
• Space ｢空, kū｣ is strong against Wind.

Light & Darkness

Light ｢光, hikari｣ and Darkness ｢闇, yami｣ are two opposing elements, separated from the five basic elements. They are in balance and do not overpower the other.

Time

Time ｢時, toki｣ is the strongest element, capable of overpowering all other elements.

Elements in Races

Elementals

Main article: Elemental

Elementals ｢精霊｢エレメンタル｣, erementaru｣ are beings who embody a specific element. They come into being from either a large gathering of natural energy or as offshoots born from a higher elemental. Most Elementals embody one of the basic elements; Light and Darkness Elementals are rare, and Time Elementals are even rarer.

Other

Individuals can be born with an element or affinity towards one or more elements. It is often easier to learn and master abilities that are in line with their element than other elements. If a user has multiple elements most of the time one of them will be more dominant than the others.

Some beings change their elements or acquire new ones later in their lives. An example of this would be direwolves which can gain a new element when evolving based on their environment. Being named can also change one's element to be more in line with the namer's elements.

Alignment

Holy & Demonic

Holy ｢聖, sei｣ is a common alignment found in Angels, and other species that are based on Holy power while Demonic ｢魔, ma｣ instead is a common alignment found in Daemons and other species based on Magicules like Monsters. Both can be found in other races and individuals as well.

If a being has both alignments, their alignment is referred to as Chaos ｢聖魔, seima, lit. "Holy-Demonic"｣. This can be found in the highest of beings, like True Dragons, but can rarely appear in some lesser individuals.

Neutral

Neutral Alignment ｢無属性, mu zokusei｣ is the alignment of some Elementals and other "natural" species which have neither Holy nor Demonic Alignment, for example Humans. It is also the alignment used by Rimuru to create the Holy magic Holy Ray.

Other

• Angelic ｢天使, tenshi｣ is a common attribute found in Angels.
• Evil ｢邪悪, jāku｣ is a rare attribute with the only individual known to be of this attribute being Vega.
• Undying ｢不死, fushi｣ is a common attribute found in Undead.

Trivia

• Sometimes combined elements can exist as two elements in one like Water-Wind ｢水風, suifū｣ and Flame-Wind ｢炎風, enpū｣.
