Great Rimuru, you say? Truly a wonderful name, one fully worthy of describing the glories of my new god. We may merely be a pair of fragile undead, but I believe we may be able to offer you assistance!
Adalmann to Shuna, The Octagram SoarsAdalmann 「アダルマン, adaruman」, formerly the Index Finger of Clayman's Five Fingers, is an Undead who is in service to Rimuru Tempest. He serves as Guardian of the 70th floor of the Dungeon, while also being a member of Rimuru's Twelve Guardian Lords.
Appearance[]
Adalmann appears to be a lich-like being that wears clergy robes. However, he was shown to be very fond of the look, as he remained as a skeleton even when he has the ability to construct a body in the labyrinth.
Personality[]
As a former follower of Luminous Faith, Adalmann showed extreme reverence towards Luminous, which allowed him to become the best Holy magic practitioner. Even after changing his faith to "Rimuruism," his trait as a fanatical follower hasn't waned one bit – rather, it's gotten even stronger. Due to this, Diablo and Shion feel an affinity towards him, much to Rimuru's annoyance.
During his period of forced servitude to Demon Lords Kazalim and Clayman, he was noted to harbor hatred for the Curse Lord due to binding him to serve as the defender of Clayman's castle.
Adalmann was also noted to have insecurities over his own capability to perform Holy magic, largely in part due to his resurrection as a Wight king. This is largely in part due to him losing his faith in the Luminous Faith as a result of the plot conceived by the Seven Luminaries as well as the fact that he believes that in a Wight king body, he can't perform Holy magic. This insecurity is no longer present once he learns that he actually can perform Holy magic with no issues.
He is noted to hold a great deal of respect for Shuna, not only because she proved his beliefs wrong, but also because she was the one who freed him and his comrades from Demon Lord Kazalim's Curse that forcefully bound them to Jistav's territory. Initially addressing her by the honorific of "-dono" ("Miss"), he later comes to respect her greatly, addressing her by the Japanese honorific of "-sama" ("Lady") after she freed him from the curse.
All above, Adalmann cares a lot about his comrades, even stating that he couldn't leave them alone even after becoming a Wight king, proving that he had a sense of camaraderie within himself.
Background[]
Adalmann was once a cardinal in the early days of the Western Holy Church, when the organization had yet to attain the reputation it has in the story.
He was born a prince of a small nation under the rule of Holy Empire of Lubelius. He was an exceptional practitioner among the recruits of the church, and with his elder brother occupying the throne and a new heir secured, Adalmann devoted himself into spreading the name of Luminous as a templar knight. He was deeply fascinated by the god Luminous and her works, and even believed her to be real.
His devotion landed him the rank of cardinal (the highest rank in the church) and became the greatest master of holy magic in his era. However, his position in Lubelius' noble hierarchy wasn't very high, so he redoubled his efforts and expanded his magical knowledge to other types. Along the way, he would hold long discussions with his best friend Gadra as he continued polishing his skills. Eventually, his efforts paid off, and he became an Enlightened.
As time passed, he was one step away from becoming a Saint, but that never came to be because of the sinister plans of the Seven Luminaries. Fearing his rise in power, they tricked him into setting off to quell a large army of undead threatening their people. Oblivious to their true intentions, he took off with his trusted friend, Albert, along with an expeditionary force that admired him. Awaiting them was a legion of undead led by a Dragon zombie at the far edge of the Jura Forest, which became their death place.
Adalmann eventually fell in battle, but his close friend Gadra used the secret art he invented, 'Reincarnation', on him. However, because the ambient miasma had tainted his soul, he was reborn as a wight. His newfound appearance caught the attention of the then Demon Lord Kazalim and, ever since, he was bound to the land by her curse, forced to defend it for a thousand years.
