A Meeting of Humans and Monsters 「人魔会談, jinma maidan」 is the thirty-eight episode of the anime adaptation That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and the fourteenth of the second season.
Synopsis[]
As prominent figures from several nations assemble in Tempest for a meeting, Laplace and his companions formulate a plan centered around Clayman. Then someone familiar joins the discussion...
Summary[]
The episode starts off with a brief glimpse into the Inner Sanctum of Holy Empire Lubelius. Laplace is confronted by a vampire garbed in priestly robes. Puzzled at this sight, he voices his confusion but goes unanswered as he mercilessly gets torn to shreds by the enraged vampire's red beam attack.
In the next scene, Laplace, seemingly in one piece, like nothing ever happened, is holding an audience with Free Guild Grandmaster Yuuki Kagurazaka, revealed to have been playing a manipulative game. Laplace offers words of pity to the 'puni puni slime' for having unknowingly played into the hands of the youth.
Yuuki brushes the clown's praise aside and notifies him that the transfer of their alliance's president's soul into a homunculus has been completed. Laplace gets excited after hearing this and impatiently asks to see them. Yuuki points to the female elf, Kagali, that has been on standby in the same room, drawing confusion from Laplace.
The room booms with Laplace's laughter, he cackles at the stark contrast Kagali's current appearance has to her old one. After a while, Laplace firms himself and formally welcomes back Kazalim. He says that not only him, but the rest of the clown troupe-- including Clayman -- have been awaiting their return. Kagali mentions that her power has not fully returned and curses Leon Cromwell.
Yuuki finally interrupts their reunion and asks Laplace to report the results of his investigation on the Western Holy Church. Laplace explains that he found nothing in the church, but in the inner sanctum, where entry is allowed only to the Emperor, he unexpectedly encountered a strong vampire that unleashed a powerful red beam on him. When Kagali hears the description of the attack, she reveals her familiarity with it. It was the signature attack of Valentine.
She notes that he was a tough opponent who was on par with her in her prime. It was because of the damage their battles would bring to their surroundings that the Walpurgis among Demon Lords was established. The three continue speculating the significance of the Demon Lord's presence within Lubelius, and conclude the conversation by deciding to hold Walpurgis since they had the required amount of patrons to petition it — Clayman, Milim, and Frey. Laplace then asks what Rimuru would do, having confidence that he won't win this.
Meanwhile, in Tempest, the meeting between the monsters' and foreign leaders begins. The new arrivals express shock at Veldora's revival, with Fuze in particular fainting. Gazel and Erald request a private talk with Rimuru, placing the meeting on hold.
After Rimuru explains the events leading up to now, Erald takes responsibility for his nation being involved in the creation of a demon lord (Eren's fairytale), and promises friendly relations with Tempest. The three fabricate a story on the Falmuth army's disappearance to feed the public. The break ends, and the meeting is resumed.
The awake Fuze is shocked when he hears Rimuru fought Hinata Sakaguchi, and he reveals that the reason why Hinata wouldn't listen to them in the first place is because the Western Holy Church, whom she works for, deems monsters as their enemies. They continue discussing the topic a bit longer as Rimuru begins to wonder who sold them out to Hinata, and from the circle of people that know of their history with Shizu, only Yuuki comes to mind. Raphael reaffirms this suspicion. Rimuru is snapped back to reality by Shion and Diablo's bickering over who should fight Hinata and puts a stop to it.
As the meeting deciding the fate of the Great Jura Forest continues, Ramiris makes a sudden appearance and carries with her an ominous warning regarding the fate of Tempest.
